The HATES challenge, led by the University of Angers, developed by OSINT4Fun and supported by the EU GREEN alliance, has received national recognition in France for its innovative and civic-minded educational approach.
A national distinction for a project supported by EU GREEN
HATES was recently awarded the “Label Citoyen UNESCO” (UNESCO Citizen Label), a French distinction highlighting educational initiatives that promote civic engagement, vigilance against intolerance and democratic values.
The label was awarded during a national event held at the Camp des Milles, a remembrance site dedicated to education against intolerance.
The University of Angers was represented by its advisor responsible for combating racism and antisemitism.
This recognition also reflects the University of Angers’ contribution within the EU GREEN alliance, particularly with regard to scientific outreach, media literacy and raising awareness of societal challenges.

A serious game designed to help understand mechanisms of hate and disinformation
Developed by the OSINT4Fun collective – a group of researchers, university staff and members of civil society – HATES offers an immersive way to explore different forms of hatred, such as racism, antisemitism, sexism, harassment, and online manipulation techniques.
By following three characters confronted with situations inspired by real cases, players learn to investigate, verify information and use OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) methods.
The goal is to help audiences understand how hateful narratives are constructed and to strengthen their critical thinking skills in the face of disinformation.
