DESCRIPTION

This BIP on Thermal Energy in the Green Transition: Technologies, Integration and Sustainability builds on a previous high-value programme hosted by the University of Gävle in June 2025. The new edition offers a comprehensive exploration of state-of-the-art thermal technologies, with a focus on sustainable solutions and innovative applications. It combines expert-led sessions on current developments with interactive workshops on practical implementation, equipping participants with knowledge, skills, and connections for work in industry, research, and policy.

The programme includes four two-hour online sessions followed by a one-week in-person summer school at the University of Oradea. The virtual component provides foundational insights into thermal energy conversion, storage, and distribution. Participants will also complete an individual project linked to their field of study or research, contributing their own perspectives to the programme.

Designed for Master’s and PhD students within EU GREEN, as well as engineers seeking to expand their expertise, the BIP offers both a broad overview and deeper insights into thermal science. Partner universities contribute lectures across both the online and in-person phases, covering key areas such as district heating, geothermal energy, energy storage, heat pumps, and solar energy. The 2026 edition retains seven core modules: Thermodynamics; Heat Transfer; Thermal Energy Storage; Thermal Energy Distribution; Renewable Thermal Energy; ICT Methods for Thermal Science; and Sector Coupling & System Integration.

The BIP also provides opportunities to engage with industry, explore career pathways, and network with international peers. Participants can attend the EUGTEC 2026 conference and take part in site visits. A social programme, including a welcome dinner and evening activities, supports exchange and collaboration, while assignments during the online phase encourage sharing of regional approaches across EU GREEN partner countries.
