EU GREEN is advancing a new stage in its development through the collective design of its Global Strategic Roadmap, a strategic process that looks beyond immediate project cycles and sets the foundations for the long-term future of the Alliance.
More than a planning exercise, the Global Strategic Roadmap reflects a shared ambition: to define together how EU GREEN will continue to grow as a transformative European University Alliance, rooted in sustainability, institutional cooperation and societal engagement. It is the space where partner universities are aligning their priorities, identifying common directions and shaping the next steps of a joint vision that reaches well beyond the present.

This process has been built progressively through strategic reflection and dialogue across the Alliance, involving key EU GREEN bodies and communities. Members of the Executive Committee, Senate, the Board of Rectors and the Student Council have contributed to defining the main lines of this common future. The Roadmap has also been enriched by the perspectives of students, associated partners and external stakeholders, reinforcing EU GREEN’s commitment to openness, participation and collaboration with society.
A significant milestone within this wider process has been the submission of a new proposal linked to the continuation of the Alliance’s work. However, this step should be understood as part of a broader strategic journey rather than as an end in itself. The proposal gives concrete expression to decisions, priorities and lines of action that have emerged through the Global Strategic Roadmap and the collective work carried out by the Alliance since the launch of this reflection process.

At the heart of this new phase is a renewed understanding of what EU GREEN wants to become in the years ahead. The Alliance is strengthening its role as a European space for collaboration in education, research, innovation and service to society, while remaining deeply connected to the needs and characteristics of its territories. Sustainability continues to act as a unifying principle across all these dimensions, not only as a thematic priority, but as a way of rethinking institutional development, academic cooperation and societal impact.
The strategic work carried out in recent months has also led to the update of EU GREEN’s Mission and Vision, providing a clearer and more ambitious framework for the future of the Alliance. This renewed Mission and Vision has received the support of the Rectors, confirming a strong institutional commitment to a shared direction and to the long-term consolidation of EU GREEN as a meaningful actor in the European higher education landscape.

Through the Global Strategic Roadmap, EU GREEN is therefore not only preparing its next steps, but also defining the basis for its future evolution. The Alliance is building this future jointly, with a long-term perspective and with the conviction that cooperation between universities can generate lasting value for students, staff, institutions, territories and Europe as a whole.
In this sense, EU GREEN’s current work is not limited to a specific moment or instrument. It is part of a broader movement of strategic maturation, in which the Alliance is clarifying its identity, reinforcing its ambitions and setting the course for the years ahead.
