Get Active 2026: a look back at the 3rd edition of our physical activity challenge

May 28, 2026

For the third year, our EU GREEN alliance took part in the Get Active challenge! From April 14 to May 5, 2026, all nine partner universities came together for this connected physical activity initiative promoting healthier habits and soft mobility across our campuses.

As in 2025, this edition was co-organised by the University of Angers and the University of Gävle as part of EU GREEN’s actions for healthier and more sustainable campuses (WP8).

A collective challenge across Europe

First launched in 2024 with seven partner universities, the initiative continues to grow, with all nine EU GREEN universities participating again this year.

Students and staff formed teams and earned points by walking, running or cycling via the Kiplin mobile app, while quizzes and fun challenges added a playful dimension throughout the three weeks.

One of this year’s highlights was the strong interaction between participants through the app discussion group: enthusiastic messages, campaigns to elect the best team name, and many photos shared during walks and outdoor activities helped create a real sense of community across the alliance.

A strong engagement

The 2026 edition saw high participation across the alliance:

  • 1,804 participants (students and staff)
  • 510 teams
  • 238,003 kilometres walked (equivalent to 6 times the circumference of the Earth)
  • 46,201 kilometres cycled (equivalent to 14 times the distance covered during the French Men’s cycle race Tour de France)
  • More than 150 photos shared by participants during their walks and activities

While the challenge gathered slightly fewer participants than last year, engagement remained particularly strong, with more teams created and more kilometres covered overall.

This year’s podium also brought some changes, with two new universities entering the top three:

  1. Wrocław University of Environment & Life Science
  2. University of Évora in second place
  3. University of Extremadura

Congratulations to all walkers, runners and cyclists who took part in this 2026 edition!

An initiative aligned with EU GREEN’s values

Get Active 2026 once again illustrated EU GREEN’s commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable and more inclusive campuses through concrete actions involving students and staff across the alliance.
