The EU GREEN European University Alliance took a significant step in expanding its international collaboration this October with a high-level presentation at the University of Chongqing in China. During the event, which was part of the Extremadura Cultural Week in China, the alliance shared its strategic vision for global engagement, reinforcing ties between Europe and Asia with Extremadura as a central connector.

Held in Chongqing, one of the major educational and cultural hubs of western China, the event served as a platform to highlight the EU GREEN Alliance’s efforts in internationalisation, sustainability, and cross-cultural learning. Delegates from the University of Extremadura, who coordinated the presentation, reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the cooperation between the University of Education of Chongqing and European partners.
Rooted in the belief that addressing modern challenges requires a deep understanding of historical and cultural foundations, the meeting adopted a philosophy that looks to the future by learning from millennia-old traditions. This approach resonated strongly with participants, reinforcing the alliance’s goal to build long-term partnerships through mutual respect, cultural exchange, and shared academic values.

The University of Extremadura—as coordinating institution of the EU GREEN Alliance—used the occasion to underline the alliance’s capacity to act as a bridge for educational, scientific, and cultural exchange between Europe and China. The week-long celebration included lectures, artistic performances, and institutional meetings designed to promote Extremadura’s identity and its role within a broader European and global context.
This international outreach supports EU GREEN’s overarching mission to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and globally connected European Higher Education Area. Events like this not only foster stronger academic cooperation but also open doors to new collaborative research, joint degrees, and student mobility programmes.
As the alliance moves into its renewal phase, these global engagements underscore the importance of positioning EU GREEN as a forward-looking, culturally engaged and internationally open university network.
