From 9 to 11 June, communication representatives from the nine universities of the EU GREEN Alliance gathered at the University of Extremadura in Cáceres for the EU GREEN Communication Workshop. The three-day event brought together communication officers from across the Alliance to review ongoing initiatives, exchange best practices and prepare the communication strategy for the next phase of the project.
The workshop focused on strengthening the Alliance’s communication and dissemination activities while providing participants with practical tools and collaborative spaces to improve the visibility and impact of EU GREEN at local, national and European levels.
One of the defining features of this edition was its inter-alliance perspective, reinforcing the growing collaboration between European University Alliances. Through two dedicated online sessions, participants had the opportunity to engage with communication professionals from other alliances, exchanging experiences, identifying common challenges and discussing approaches to communicating the European Universities Initiative more effectively.
The first guest session featured Samuel Taviro, representing the ERUA – European Reform University Alliance, who shared the student perspective on alliance communication and engagement. His presentation highlighted the importance of empowering students as active ambassadors of European alliances and ensuring that communication strategies genuinely reflect their needs, expectations and experiences.

The workshop also included an online session with Andrea Zestic, Head of Communication of the ENHANCE Alliance, who presented ENHANCE’s communication strategy and shared practical experiences on branding, storytelling and stakeholder engagement. The exchange encouraged participants to compare approaches, discuss common communication challenges and identify good practices that can strengthen collaboration between European University Alliances.
Alongside these exchanges, participants reviewed the current implementation of the EU GREEN Communication and Dissemination Plan and worked on several strategic initiatives, including the Promotion Grant communication campaign, the Alliance-wide Sustainable Development Goals campaign, the use of the AGORA platform, and the evaluation of communication activities carried out during the first phase of the project.
A significant part of the workshop was dedicated to preparing the communication strategy for the next phase of the project. Working sessions focused on the development of a new editorial plan, the future website structure, local branding guidelines and new approaches to policy advocacy and outreach, laying the foundations for a more coordinated, consistent and impactful communication framework across the Alliance.

Participants also took part in practical training sessions on digital communication tools, aimed at enhancing the quality, accessibility and visual consistency of communication materials produced across the Alliance.
The Communication Workshop once again demonstrated that effective communication is a cornerstone of the European Universities Initiative. By combining strategic planning, practical training and dialogue with colleagues from other alliances, EU GREEN continues to strengthen its capacity to communicate its achievements, engage its academic communities and contribute to a more connected, visible and collaborative European Higher Education Area.
