EU GREEN Alliance advances academic mobility and international collaboration in Gävle

Opening with a warm welcome from Swedish hosts and a cultural evening, the event centred on Fostering Mobility and International Collaboration for Education on Sustainability. Coordinators from the University of Parma, including Alessandro Bernazzoli and Vagia Niki (Vanita) Stergioula, guided discussions on the strategic roadmap for this core mission, key performance indicators, and sustainable development goals.

Key topics included the development of the Inter-Institutional Multilateral Agreement, updates on Erasmus+ mobility and Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), and digital solutions such as AGORA, Greenworks, and the Mobility Tracker to manage mobility more efficiently. Sessions also addressed the evolving EU GREEN Mobility Protocol and introduced a new “BIP Booklet” showcasing best practices from 2023–2024.

The programme featured parallel thematic tracks, including one focused on student engagement — highlighting the role of the EU GREEN Student Council, the Ambassador Project, and the upcoming 2026 Student Conference in Parma — and another on staff training initiatives such as Erasmus Weeks and tailored BIPs for professional development.

Day two expanded on digitalisation, impact assessment, and global outreach. Participants explored the alliance’s expanding partnerships with Ukrainian institutions, new international collaboration protocols, and preparations for participation in NAFSA 2025. Discussions also looked at synergies with other EU GREEN work packages, particularly in education and research, to encourage joint degrees and internship opportunities.

The week concluded with a traditional Swedish “fika” and plans for the next in-person meeting focused on mobility and international collaboration, to be held in Brussels. The event was widely considered a success, reinforcing the EU GREEN Alliance’s shared commitment to building a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable European Higher Education Area.
