EU GREEN celebrates strategic Board of Rectors meeting to shape the future of the Alliance

From April 8 to 11, 2025, the University of Évora hosted the Board of Rectors Meeting of the EU GREEN Alliance, bringing together rectors, vice-rectors, and representatives from the nine member universities to evaluate progress and define strategic priorities for the next phase of the alliance.

Throughout the sessions, the rectors reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a sustainable, inclusive, and united European Higher Education Area, taking into special consideration the current context of international political instability. In this scenario, they highlighted the need for stronger cooperation, academic resilience, and the promotion of shared European values through cross-border collaboration.

In parallel, the Senate, Executive Committee, and Work Package coordinators met in working sessions that promoted coordination and exchange between different levels of governance. Several important decisions were made, including strategic advances in the development and implementation of the EU GREEN Agora platform, as well as in the establishment of a common framework for quality assurance and impact evaluation. These tools will be key to ensuring transparency, internal coordination, and the long-term sustainability of the alliance’s actions.

One of the highlights of the agenda was the joint meeting with representatives from other European university alliances, including UNITA and RUN-EU, fostering a space for institutional learning and mutual understanding.

A dedicated roundtable with directors of Science and Technology Parks and innovation vice-rectors also addressed the role of universities in regional development and innovation ecosystems.

The meeting concluded on April 11 with the Executive Committee session, focused on translating strategic decisions into implementation plans and ensuring continuity across work packages.

This gathering in Évora marks a milestone for EU GREEN, demonstrating the alliance’s shared vision and capacity for action in times of uncertainty, and reinforcing its role as a leading actor in shaping the future of European higher education.
