On April 3–4, 2025, the EU GREEN Alliance took another important step towards the creation of a new Joint Degree Master’s in Sustainability, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship in Smart Rural Territories, during its 2nd Transnational Meeting held at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in Donegal, Ireland.
The meeting brought together academic representatives from EU GREEN partner universities to work collaboratively on the academic structure and curriculum design of the new joint programme. Discussions focused on the semester breakdown, core subject areas, and expected learning outcomes, laying the foundation for a high-impact academic programme that reflects EU GREEN’s vision for interdisciplinary, cross-border education.
This Joint Master’s is designed to provide specialized training aimed at revitalizing rural areas, transferring knowledge to foster employment, innovation, and economic diversification. It adopts a place-based approach, integrating themes such as cultural heritage, tourism,
technological innovation, community leadership, and territorial sustainability, all under the umbrella of inclusive and high-quality education.
The results of this meeting will feed into the ANECA European Approach Degree Accreditation Application, as part of the joint commitment of EU GREEN to deliver internationally recognized qualifications that respond to societal and environmental needs. The development of this Joint Degree is a strategic step in the alliance’s mission to promote sustainable development and innovation across European regions, ensuring that higher education contributes meaningfully to building resilient, smart rural communities.
