From May 26th to 28th, 2025, the European Parliament in Strasbourg became the epicentre of youth-led dialogue and policy innovation as 240 students from 31 countries gathered for the European Students Assembly (ESA). Selected from a competitive pool of 2,331 applications, these young changemakers represented 53 European University Alliances — among them, EU GREEN.
The EU GREEN Alliance was proudly represented by four outstanding students:
-
Lilas Roux Sauvegrain (University of Angers), who contributed to the panel on “Mentally (un)stable”
-
Dermott Harkin (Atlantic Technological University), engaged in discussions on “Unveiling inequalities”
-
Mario Fuentes Martín (University of Extremadura), active in the group “AI, European democracy and civic engagement”
-
Ana María Montero Martínez (University of Extremadura, PhD student), who worked on “Education beyond graduation”
The European Students Assembly offers a dynamic forum for democratic participation, collaborative debate and civic engagement. Throughout the event, participants explored key societal challenges during workshops, panel discussions, and working groups, culminating in the presentation of concrete policy recommendations to EU policymakers.
One of the most symbolic moments of the Assembly was the Alliances Village, where EU GREEN was introduced to participants by the students themselves — reinforcing the values of openness, shared identity, and active contribution to the European Higher Education landscape.
The involvement of EU GREEN students in ESA not only spotlighted the strength of our diverse academic community but also highlighted the essential role of students in building a more sustainable, inclusive, and democratic Europe. With fresh insights and strong connections forged in Strasbourg, these representatives return ready to continue shaping the future of Europe from within our alliance.
