Hosted by Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, this hybrid event examines the depth of diversity within universities, questioning the accuracy of common perceptions of inclusivity in academic environments. National and international institutions often promote themselves as cosmopolitan and diverse, but how true is this image? The event will explore the limitations universities, their staff, and students may face in promoting inclusion, considering whether all avenues have been pursued to guarantee meaningful participation for underrepresented groups in studies, teaching, and administration. Additionally, it raises the question of whether certain diversity strategies might inadvertently have the opposite effect.
The discussion will include insights from educational scientist Katharina Maria Pongratz from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, social sciences student and OVGUpride spokesperson Gabriel Rücker, Dr. phil. Chripa Schneller, founder and director of the Institute for Diversity Competence, and Prof. Dr. Karla Melinda Barth from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Oradea in Romania. Prof. Dr. Katja Michalak from the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz and IKOE project manager at AGSA e.V. will moderate the session.
The EU GREEN Public Talk series serves as an open platform for critical social discussions across Europe, offering valuable perspectives on diversity and inclusivity in higher education.
