On the occasion of World Health Day (7 April), the EU GREEN European University Alliance joins the global community in celebrating health as a fundamental human right and a pillar of sustainable development. This year, under the World Health Organization’s theme “My health, my right”, the alliance reaffirms its commitment to fostering healthier campuses and promoting physical and mental well-being for all students and staff.
Throughout April, EU GREEN is marking this important date with a variety of wellness initiatives across its nine partner universities. One of the highlights is the launch of the alliance-wide challenge “Get Active 2.0”, an initiative that encourages physical activity through gamified movement tracking via the Kiplin app.
This year, for the first time, all nine EU GREEN partners are taking part in the Get Active Challenge, aiming to double the participation numbers achieved in 2023. The challenge encourages walking, movement and friendly competition among teams of students and staff across Europe, supporting physical health and community building across borders.
In addition to the Kiplin challenge, the University of Gävle is also promoting “HittaUt” (FindOut) – an outdoor challenge that runs throughout the summer and encourages individuals to explore nature and embrace an active lifestyle.
EU GREEN’s activities reflect its ongoing efforts to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, into university life. By combining awareness, accessibility, and action, the alliance promotes a healthier, more connected academic community — because health is not just a right, but a shared responsibility.
